What a Hackathon is: A marathon of hacking (ethically) to solve social, business and/or economical challenges. Ideally, no one goes home and everyone works non-stop to build a tech/digital solution.

Young innovators will work in teams with government digital ambassadors and industry mentors to develop ideas and prototypes for improving service delivery.

The Ignite Hackathon will take place on 28 - 30 September as part of the Service Delivery month (see build-up activities below) at the University of Johannesburg Kingsway Campus, Auckland Park.

The 2018 Theme: Youth Spark - Igniting Youth Action Towards Improved Service Delivery.

* If you were a decision maker in Government for 1 weekend, what would you build to enhance service delivery?

Judging Criteria

We will have two rounds of judging on Sunday 30 September.

In the first round, Top 10 winners where all the teams present.

In the second round top 3 winners will be selected after presentations by the Top 10 teams.

The evaluation criteria will be the same for both rounds of presentations:

  1. Novelty: how new or creative is the idea or method you used
  2. Service delivery impact: what impact can it have on one of the focus areas
  3. Feasibility: how easily can it be implemented, at what cost and timeline
  4. Safety: how does the solution address information privacy and security
